Wow! What a weekend of racing for Pencoed Tri.

The whole team from juniors to seniors has been out there smashing it again this weekend!

The weekend started with a number of the team entering the Aberavon Aquathlon. Coach Alan Kerr was there to show everyone how it’s done by taking 2nd in his age group.

Next it was the turn of junior team member, Ronan Adams. Ronan was taking part in the TriStars Welsh Championships series, in Pembroke. He came 11th, which now puts him at 7th place in the overall series.

Sunday also saw a number of the team compete at the Sospan Sizzler middle distance, with club member Natasha Barton winning 1st senior female and Simon Osborne taking 2nd in his age category.

A few of our members were also seen taking part in the Gower Cycle and demonstrating the importance of hydration;-) Jonathan Cosson also competed in his first Sprint Tri, at Parc Bryn Bach.

There’re too many names to mention, but well done to everyone in Team Pencoed who competed this weekend.

First Club Championship race

Yesterday saw the first of our club championship races. The weather gods weren’t very kind and the swim had to be cut short due water temperature.

A few of our members were unable to start which left only 6 members competing. I’m sure those that were able to complete will be happy to get some early points on the board.

Following the first race the current standings are:

AthletePorthcawl Tri
Andrea Garrington32
Jade Brown26
Stephen Bassett26
Michael Edwards24
Ian Gill22
Jan Jones22

The next race is Tata Steelman 19th May. Hopefully the weather will be kinder and the water warmer:-)

2019 Pontevedra ITU Aqua Bike World Championships

What a great day for our fantastic Pencoed Tri members Chris Goulden, Natasha Barton (Tash) & Andrew Martin (Pops) at the 2019 Aqua Bike Champsionship in Pontervendra, Spain.

By all accounts it was a tough day at the office with the swim having to be cut short due to the water temperature. The swim was followed by a very windy and hilly bike course.

The team did fantastically. Within their age groups, Chris took 2nd place, Tash 19th and Pops 5th.

Hopefully, they’re all now enjoying a well deserved beer!

Enjoying the Sunshine

Great to see so many Club Members enjoying the bank holiday sunshine. Lots of great training being done, from Tenby IM reccies to Bwlch climbs in beautiful sunshine and not forgetting mad 24hr swim challenges by Tom and Lewis. A few brave folks even braved the sea for their first dip of the year.

Still not sure how Jan managed to find a Parkrun in a quarry.

SUMMER IS COMING:-)

Busy weekend for PTC

The session is well and truly underway for Pencoed Triathlon members. It’s been a very busy weekend for many of our club members.

Natasha (Tash) Barton did the club proud when she won the Mumbles Super Sprint Duathlon.

Sian Jakeman completed the first of her three 5k swim challenge and our very own Aquaman Tom Chapman completed all three in one go.

Justin Pring completed his first ever 205km Audax ride and finished with some well deserved recovery fuelling:-)

Chris Adams completed his 50th Parkrun in Porthcawl and our junior member Ronan Adams has been competing at the GB Surf Life Saving Nippers championships at Cardiff international pool.

Andrea, Jan and Kath completed a sunny Forest of Dean half Marathon

While a lot of club members were competing this weekend others were putting in the training, enjoying a ride in the sunshine with two group rides going to Cowbridge and Caerphilly.

Busy weekend for Pencoed Tri members

Despite the cold weather, it’s been a busy weekend for Pencoed Triathlon club members.

Junior member Ronan Adams took part in the 2019 Welsh Stillwater Surf Life Saving Championship. He came 6th in the 50m fin race in 32.52 seconds, 2nd in the Manikin Carry and 3rd in the 50m Board Race. He also helped his Sker lifeguards team win 2nd place in the Medley Relay with Alex Ballantyne, Cai Williams, and Finley Canon. Well done Ronan keep up the hard work.

Club member Mark Hester completed a very cold and slippery Worms Head 10k, while Caroline Rees made sure she wrapped up warm to complete the Winter Warmer 10k in a new personal best time.
